Essential Tips for Safely Operating Concrete Pump Truck Hoses

In concrete pump truck construction, hose operation is a crucial factor determining efficiency and safety!

In concrete pump truck construction, hose operation is a crucial factor determining efficiency and safety! Today, we'll guide you through the core points of hose operation, from communication and collaboration to standardized operation, from routine maintenance to emergency response, helping you avoid risks and improve construction safety and smoothness.

✅01 A Matter of Life and Death – Starting/Stopping Requires Coordination

Operating the hose of a small concrete pump truck is not a one-person job! Before starting or stopping pumping, it is essential to contact the hose operator at the front end and clearly communicate instructions via hand gestures, walkie-talkie, or other means. Starting or stopping without prior communication may cause the hose to detach due to sudden pressure changes, or even result in concrete splashing and injury.

✅02 Space Management – Hose Posture Determines Safety Limits

Bending Radius > 1 meter: When bending the hose, the minimum radius must be strictly greater than 1 meter to avoid excessive bending that could lead to fatigue fracture of the internal steel wire layer.

Do not stand at the outlet: Operators must not stand directly facing the hose outlet to prevent injury from sudden concrete spray.

Keep away from building edges: When holding the end of the hose, it is strictly forbidden to stand at the edge of a building, as hose swaying or concrete spray may cause a fall risk.

✅03 Pipeline Fixing – Stability is the Foundation of Safety

It is strictly forbidden to bend or suspend hoses arbitrarily, otherwise vibration or pressure shock may cause the hose to burst. When pumping again after the pipeline blockage has been cleared, the end of the hose will swing violently. At this time, workers must stay away to prevent instantaneous concrete spraying.

✅04. Operational "Taboos" and "Must-Dos"

**Strictly Prohibited:** Never put your hands into the hopper/water tank while the pump truck is running to prevent mechanical injury.

**Maintain Hopper Level:** The concrete level must always be above the mixing axis. Do not pump without material or allow it to run dry, as this can damage the equipment.

**Handling of Long-Term Pauses:** If pumping needs to be paused for more than 15-30 minutes, periodically reverse the pump for 1-2 strokes, then pump forward for 1-2 strokes to prevent concrete from hardening inside the pipe.

✅05. Emergency Handling – Calm and Scientific Approach

**If a blockage occurs, do not force pressure!** Follow these steps: Immediately stop the machine and disconnect the power to release residual air pressure.

**Locate the Blockage:** Determine the location of the blockage by tapping and listening.

**Segmented Clearance:** Disconnect the nearest union and insert a compressed air hose to blow air in reverse, or use a specialized tool to clean.

**Caution:** Tapping under pressure or forcibly rotating the pump forward may worsen the blockage or even cause a pipe burst!

Operating the hoses of a small concrete pump truck is not only a technical skill but also a matter of great responsibility. Every detail is crucial to construction efficiency and personnel safety. We remind you: safety is paramount, and adherence to regulations is essential! Only by strictly following operating procedures can every cubic meter of concrete be delivered safely and efficiently, ensuring every construction project is completed successfully. Let us work together to build a strong safety barrier and create a civilized construction site!
