In concrete pumping operations, have you ever encountered problems such as poor discharge, intermittent discharge, or insufficient discharge volume? Frequent pressure fluctuations, equipment malfunctions, and forced shutdowns not only increase labor burden but also delay project progress.
In concrete pumping operations, have you ever encountered problems such as poor discharge, intermittent discharge, or insufficient discharge volume? Frequent pressure fluctuations, equipment malfunctions, and forced shutdowns not only increase labor burden but also delay project progress. Today, we offer the following suggestions to ensure the continuity and stability of your pumping operations.

1. The concrete piston is severely worn.
Prolonged contact and friction between the piston and concrete gradually damages the wear-resistant layer, reducing its sealing performance and weakening its suction and pumping capacity. This results in noticeable insufficient power and unstable pressure in the pump truck. Therefore, the piston condition should be checked regularly, and any severely worn piston parts should be replaced promptly with reliable ones. Although the initial cost is slightly higher, it can reduce the frequency and cost of subsequent maintenance.
2. The gap between the spectacle plate and the cutting ring is too large.
Excessive gap between the spectacle plate and the cutting ring can cause concrete leakage during pumping, resulting in uneven discharge and pressure fluctuations. Before construction, the gap must be carefully adjusted to the normal range, and pressure changes should be monitored during pumping; any abnormalities should be immediately stopped and investigated.
3. Poor concrete quality and inadequate inhalation function.
When the concrete slump is unsuitable—too dry or too thin—it will affect its flow within the pipeline. Concrete that is too dry is difficult to draw into the pump pipe, while concrete that is too thin may segregate and clog the pipes. No matter how the pump truck parameters are adjusted, it will be difficult to achieve the desired results. Therefore, it is essential to strengthen communication with the batching plant and precisely control the concrete slump and mix proportions based on construction requirements and pump truck performance to ensure good pump-ability.
4. The S-tube was partially blocked.
Construction site environments are complex, and debris can easily mix into the concrete, accumulating in the S-pipe and causing blockages. Once blocked, the pump truck pressure surges and noise increases, requiring immediate shutdown for cleaning. Careless handling could damage the pipes or other components. To avoid this, a filter screen can be installed at the inlet to intercept large particles, and the S-pipe should be regularly flushed with a high-pressure water gun to remove residual concrete and other impurities.

The stable discharge of concrete boom pump trucks is crucial to construction efficiency and the driver's workload. By monitoring equipment wear, adjusting clearances of key components, controlling concrete quality, and preventing pipeline blockages, abnormal downtime and operational burden can be significantly reduced. Only through systematic troubleshooting and proactive maintenance can the pump truck operate efficiently and support the smooth progress of the project.
